AHA describes how tariffs could affect health care

The Trump administration鈥檚 tariffs could have  for health care, according to American Hospital Association Board Chair Tina Freese Decker, MHA. President and CEO  at Corewell Health, Grand Rapids, Mich., Decker says a significant portion of medical goods comes from international sources, including drugs, devices and personal protective equipment. Tariffs on these items could affect patient care by 鈥渏eopardizing the availability of vital medications and essential health care devices.鈥 They also could raise hospital costs, worsen shortages and cause supply chain disruptions. The AHA has  tariff exemptions for medications and medical supplies. (AHA Chairperson鈥檚 File , 5/19/25)
