AHA urges CMS to prioritize hospitals with rural health fund
The American Hospital Association the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to prioritize payments from the Rural Health Transformation Program to hospitals for workforce recruitment and retention, infrastructure and telehealth services. The program, established as part of the recent passage of the reconciliation bill, includes $50 billion in funding for rural providers. Geographic isolation, a shortage of health care providers and limited affordable coverage options accessing care more difficult in rural areas, with hospitals sometimes serving as the only care source. The AHA says CMS should implement a simple and streamlined application and award process. The law鈥檚 cuts to Medicaid to result in increased costs for hospitals, community health clinics, the uninsured, patients and ultimately taxpayers. (AHA News , 8/11/25)
