CDC ends COVID-19 vaccine recommendation for healthy children, pregnant women

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  its recommendation that healthy children and pregnant women routinely receive COVID-19 shots. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.,  the change on X, bypassing the CDC鈥檚 now-disbanded Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. The American Colleges of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Infectious Disease Society of America opposed the move, with ACOG  COVID-19 infection can be dangerous for women during pregnancy and noting newborns on maternal antibodies from the vaccine for protection. Experts worry insurers will no longer pay for the vaccine for healthy children and pregnant women; IDSA urged insurers to continue to pay and for Congress to provide oversight of HHS.
