CDC releases overdose prevention funds

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is  grant money to 90 public health departments in its Overdose Data to Action program after halting funding and reportedly considering canceling the $140 million in grants. Separately, the Food and Drug Administration is  safety label changes to all opioid pain medications to further emphasize and explain risks associated with long-term use. The updates include presenting clearer risk information, stronger dosing warnings, clarifying language on use limits, treatment guidance and more. The agency gave manufacturers 30 days to submit their labeling updates for review. Meanwhile, a recent study found deaths  when users combined stimulants with opioids. (The Hill , 8/5/25)
