Tool Helps to Determine Front-line Nurses’ Needs

In response to charge nurses  they needed more real-time information to assist front-line nurses effectively, HCA Healthcare developed a phone app to determine the workload at the unit and individual nurse level. HCA Senior Vice President and CNE Sammie Mosier, DHA, RN, said the Nashville-based health system’s nursing infrastructure and information technology teams collaborated to develop the app. The app allows the charge nurse to see how many patients are being admitted and discharged at the unit level and the team’s schedule, flagging when nurses need help or are missing tasks or breaks.
