AHA this week urged leaders of the House and Senate to consider requests of $530 million for the Nursing Workforce Development programs and $193 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research.
Members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies requesting $530 million for Title VIII nursing workforce development programs.
In a Feb. 25 letter, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) urged Congressional leaders to include support for front-line health care workers and nursing education in the next COVID-19 relief package.
According to the National Council of the State Boards of Nursing, more than 5 million RNs and LPNs are in the United States. That is significantly more than the 1 million licensed physicians. By contrast, 11 physicians but only 3 nurses were elected to the current U.S. Congress.
