Entrepreneurial nurse leaders should  businesses that improve people’s health and welfare, says Susan Foley, PhD, RN, founder and CEO, Intellevita, Sewickley, Pa. Foley, writing in the August issue of Nurse Leader, says by 2040, consumers will be at the center of health models instead of hospitals, insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. This shift will enable nurses to leverage their knowledge of technology, consumer wishes and value-based care to meet people’s health care needs in outpatient and home settings. She says nurse entrepreneurs can offer insights into health promotion, disease prevention and treating chronic diseases in community and home settings. Nurse entrepreneurs also can influence policy, shape public health and assist patients in navigating administrative complexities.
